The hardware complete AXIOM Beta prototype which we showcased at NAB for the very first time has "opened its eyes", and we are receiving first image data from the image sensor. We use the same defect sample image sensor (that did not pass quality controls) in the Beta prototype for these first tests as we used in the Alpha prototype. You can see the defect coloumns on the left and the right of the image. Also keep in mind this image lacks calibration and white balance and does not apply any corrections or compensations (like FPN removal), so it's as weak as any newborn's vision :). Nevertheless, we already can tell that the improvements to the image sensor support and power supply circuit design are clearly visible in the images. The dynamic row noise is barely noticeable anymore compared to the first AXIOM Alpha test images.
At the Linuxwochen in Vienna (May 7th until May 9th) we presented the AXIOM Beta prototype in operation for the very first time. We also gave a talk about AXIOM development progress and shared our crowdfunding experience and knowledge and operated a booth in which we created a small film studio with the Beta.
In this booth setup we also captured the very first DNG images of our "model subject": the AXIOM Labs building. Remember also this DNG was captured with our defect sample image sensor and contains dead pixel areas and other artifacts (eg. image areas with offset because the software writing the raw images was reused directly from the AXIOM Alpha prototype and requires some adaption).

Real time video output is
Real time video output is still a bit buggy and needs software optimizations - while it works basically its nothing we want to share yet :)
Meconium…?
Meconium…?
Apologies for the meconium
Apologies for the meconium comment no slur intended, it was meant to humorously reflect the unexpected nature of Baby Betas' first productions!
I've been nosing around the phabricator site quite a bit trying to educate myself about what you are all doing behind the scenes. It's exciting lots of fresh thinking and a mind boggling number of decisions to be made. Nothing I can contribute on that level as much of it is a little impenetrable to me coming from a visual/photographer/LC's viewpoint. Anyway just wanted to say thanks!
It feels like there are very few of you slaving away with loads to do on our behalf's.
Having downloaded the files and putting them into Lightroom or Photoshop it's possible to improve them a lot. Not that there aren't lots of odd artefacts they seem very similar to DNG's that have been underexposed a couple of stops?
